Admissions

We often hear a familiar story. “We have not been able to find the right school for our speller, because…” or, “Our speller was removed from their school. The school just didn’t understand them.”

At AZSA, our desire is to see as many spellers appropriately placed in schools that will challenge and enrich their lives as possible. For some, that may be a public or private school, for others, a school designed specifically for spellers is exactly what is needed. Our goal is to provide the enriching and challenging education so many spellers have been denied, and that they richly deserve.

AZSA is an accepting and diverse community of students, parents, and teachers. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, gender identity or expression, national and ethnic origin, or any other classification protected by law, as part of our dedication to creating a diverse and accepting community.

Application Requirements

Our first year we will be serving students in grades K-8, and we have plans to eventually serve high school students in the years to come. Prospective students must be in the process of learning to use a letter board to communicate under the guidance of a spelling practitioner. Families must presume competence and share our belief that all students are capable of learning. Students must be a non-speaker, minimal speaker, or unreliable speaker.
